Money Smart: What To Buy Now

June is known for weddings, Father’s Day and early summer fun. But did you know that this month is also a great time to snag deals on purchases big and small?

Here are a few things that are typically great buys in June:

Man Lifting WeightsGym Memberships. Summer tends to be a slower season for gyms. Most of us have long forgotten our New Year’s resolutions to lose weight and get fit. Those who remember those promises often take advantage of the nice weather and head outdoors. This means you can find great deals at a lot of gyms. Remember, as the season heats up you may soon be grateful for their air conditioning!

Flatware, Plates and Glasses. June is traditionally known as a big month for weddings. Popular gift items like plates, eating utensils and glassware go on sale this month, making it a terrific time to buy a gift for the happy couple or for yourself.

Tools. Dads everywhere are drooling over circulars from their favorite tool stores and hoping their kids notice the great deals to be had on power tools. Whether for dad or for yourself, this is a great opportunity to grab some deals.

Selecting Paint ChipsPaint. The weather is warmer and that means it’s home improvement time! Both interior and exterior paints will be on sale throughout this month so be sure to stock up for your next project.

Leftovers. Anything Graduation or Father’s Day that didn’t sell this year will be deeply discounted. If it isn’t dated, like that #1 Dad apron, it would make a great gift for next year.

In-season items like gear for gardening, camping, biking and swimming are competitively priced. As are bathing suits, sandals and summer clothes. Watch for the big discounts on these items at the end of season though.

While we never would encourage you to buy things you don’t need, we do encourage you to look for deals on those items you do need. Why not take advantage of those deals and steals?

Best Wishes Sheryl!

Today is the last day of work for Sheryl Goble, a VCNB employee of more than twenty years. Sheryl is known by many customers in our McArthur office as the New Accounts Officer who helped them with their every need for many, many years.

Sheryl is a lady in every sense of the word, a good listener and a kind person. She will be missed here at the bank. When he presented her gift from the bank, President Ron Collins summed it up when he said “it’s people like you the bank is all about.”

We wish Sheryl all the best in this new chapter of her life. We recently celebrated Sheryl’s career and retirement with a party. Here a few pictures from that day.

VCNB Rolls Out the Red Carpet For Business Customers

Owning and operating a business is hard work. Banking for your business shouldn’t be.

That’s why at VCNB we have a full line of business products to make your life easier. From business accounts to loans to payroll services, we have products and services to help your business.

red carpet and starsMore importantly, we have local support to back up the promise that you will love our business banking.

“We have all the bells and whistles the big banks offer but with a community bank touch. Our customer isn’t a number. We get to know them. We develop a relationship with them and we stay with them to make sure they are satisfied,” explained Monica Delong, Vice President of Retail Accounts. “It would be unfair to say we are competitive. We are better than competitive,” she said.

With Business Online Banking, Delong said that customers can manage their business’ accounts 24 hours a day. “There are a variety of accounts to choose from and they can do wire transfers, stop payments, bill pay and all sorts of things online,” she explained.

Credit card machines are also popular, according to Delong. VCNB’s newest business banking service, Remote Deposit Capture, allows business customers to deposit checks from the convenience of their workplace. Credit, debit and ATM cards make accessing funds easy and our Payroll Services is a convenient way to manage payroll, taxes and more.

The best part though is that VCNB has local staff to assist and support business customers. “If our customer has any issue, we have a dedicated support line, dedicated support online chat and staff ready to help. We will go to their workplace and get them set up. We will hold their hand while they learn and troubleshoot if there’s a problem,” Delong said.

“We only use local people so there’s no call center to handle issues. They will get to know us and we will get to know them. And it’s service delivered with a smile,” she explained.

Business customers can access many services:

Backyard Fun For All

Summer vacation will be here soon. With it will come a chorus of exclamations from your kids – they are bored. What will they do for fun today?

For some families, time or money won’t allow for a vacation this year. Fortunately, there is a lot of fun to be had in your own back yard if you just go looking for it!

Here are some ideas to get you started.

Take a Hike – Look to community and state parks for trails filled with trees, wildflowers and wildlife. Here you will find recreation and pretty scenery.

Visit a Farmer’s Market – Most communities have them and you never know what you’ll find. Help your kids learn where their food comes from while supporting local farmers.

Take a Picnic – Whether it’s at a scenic park or in your own backyard, family picnics are fun! Dining al fresco is especially fun if you pack a Frisbee or some other outdoor game.

Pick Your Own – Seek out a pick your own patch of fruits or vegetables. Pick your own berry patches are especially popular.

Take a Bike Ride – Dust off your bikes and go for a little ride. Everyone will have fun and it’s great exercise!

Hang Around – Spend an afternoon at the school or community playground. What’s more fun than monkey bars and swings?

Look for “Discount Days” – A lot of museums, parks and other attractions offer discount tickets or even free admission certain days of the week. Check out their website or call to see if there are any offers available.

Plan a Movie Night – Too hot to go outside? Prepare a few snacks and watch your child’s favorite movie!

Schedule a Photo Shoot – Give your kids some props and let them ham it up for your camera! They will have fun playing around and you’ll have some great pictures to remember the day.

Family fun doesn’t have to be expensive or far from home. Look around your neighborhood and see what’s available and appropriate for your family. Look to your local Chamber of Commerce or Visitors’ Center for guidance as well.
